Wind Turbine Fire Systems
Wind Turbine Fire Protection
The Risk: Catastrophic Fires in Remote Wind Turbines
Automatic fire protection of wind turbines is of great importance as the consequential damages of wind turbine fires is enormous. This risk has gained considerable attention as the number of wind turbines multiplies worldwide.
Turbine fires originate from lightning strikes, from failures of generators or power converters, overheating of brakes, ignition of lubricants or hydraulic fluids, or numerous other factors. These fires often have catastrophic effect and are already causing millions of dollars of damage annually. The construction of the wind turbine, the threat of fire, and the remote and harsh nature of these facilities combine to make the Stat-X® aerosol fire suppression units uniquely suited to reduce this threat.
The Solution: Stat-X Fire Suppression Advanced Technology
Stat-X highly-advanced fire suppression technology offers the lightest, most compact, and economical fire extinguishing solution available. A Stat-X unit consists of an extremely rugged, hermetically sealed, stainless steel canister containing a stable, solid compound.
The canister is compact, durable and non-pressurized, and is capable of withstanding harsh, corrosive environments, including the severe marine setting of an off-shore wind turbine. In the event of a fire, Stat-X units automatically release ultra-fine particles and propellant inert gases which effectively extinguish fires using less mass of agent than any other conventional extinguishing system. Stat-X® extinguishing units are compact and modular
Versatile Applications
Stat-X units are available either as electrically activated units integrated with a variety of fire detection systems, or as thermally-activated units, requiring no external power source. Modular in size, Stat-X units are capable of fitting all high-risk component areas of the wind turbine, include the nacelle, generators, hydraulics, transformers, switches, and control cabinets.
Highly Economical
Installation of Stat-X units requires minimal expense as no pressure-relief system or structural measures are needed. The simple and robust design requires virtually no maintenance, thereby reducing ongoing operating costs. Discharge of the extinguishing agent causes no harmful byproducts, so in the event of a fire, downtime is kept to a minimum.
